Understanding Fire Door Ratings

At JELD-WEN, we offer third-party-certified, fire-rated doorsets engineered to meet the safety and design requirements of your project. Our comprehensive range includes single and double doorsets, as well as individual door slabs, tailored for both commercial and domestic applications.

Fire ratings are denoted as 'FD' followed by the number of minutes the door is designed to withstand fire, such as FD30 for a minimum of 30 minutes of protection and FD60 for 60 minutes.

FD30 vs. FD60: Comparing Fire Door Protection Levels

  • An FD30-rated fire door assembly is certified to provide at least 30 minutes of fire resistance.
  • In the event of a fire, it serves as a barrier to contain the blaze.
  • It slows the spread of smoke and heat for half an hour.
  • An FD60-rated fire door assembly offers a higher level of protection.
  • It is certified to withstand fire for a minimum of 60 minutes.
  • Fd60 fire door cores are made with high-density of core materials and therefore are generally a thicker depth and a heavier weight.
  • These doors require FD60-specific intumescent seals and hardware choice.

How to Identify a Fire Door

Identifying fire doors is essential for their proper maintenance and functionality, yet many people find it challenging. To spot a fire door, check for a certification label on the top edge of the door leaf, which displays the manufacturer’s details, certification number, fire rating and other key information. Fire door testing and certification

We place the highest importance on the independent, third-party testing of our fire-rated doors. Testing by accredited organisations ensures our products are objectively verified to perform as stated. By committing to these comprehensive evaluations, we offer peace of mind that our fire doors meet and exceed established UK safety standards.

The Future of Fire Door Safety

Historically, maintaining the safety and compliance of fire doors post-installation has been a challenging and error-prone task. To address this, we’ve introduced digital door data pins to our entire range of internal fire doorsets.

These digital door data pins offer:

  • Effortless access to essential information for each doorset
  • A dedicated app to simplify documentation processes
  • Alignment with the golden thread principle and enhanced fire safety

Installing Fire Doors

While fire doors are no more challenging to install than standard doors, we strongly recommend hiring a professional to ensure proper installation in line with our fitting instructions and certification data sheet.

To support the process, we’ve developed straightforward video tutorials to guide the installation of our internal doorsets.
