Composite doors are a great choice for many reasons. The outside of your home is the first thing a visitor will see and first impressions count. But it’s not only about good looks. Your door is the guard against unwanted visitors and needs to play a big role in keeping you and your family safe and warm for many years.
The composite doorset is a perfect mixture of looks and performance with many different contemporary styles and colours to choose from.
What is a composite door?
A composite door is a door made from more than one material unlike a timber or uPVC door. By using multiple materials, it allows a composite door to have more benefits than a single material product.
An external composite doorset is a sturdy, strong alternative to uPVC and steel options. It’s made from tough glass reinforced plastic, or more commonly known as fibreglass.
You’d expect a composite door to look industrial, heavy and not modern, but the truth is far from it. With an attractive, realistic wood grain effect and with many styles and colours to choose from there’s one to suit every home.
Composite doorsets are near enough maintenance free and it will not splinter, dent or rust so you have that peace of mind you’re buying a quality door that will last.
What are the benefits of a composite door?
We all want to feel secure in our home and the composite front door is the product to choose if you’re looking for high security. Each composite doorset is fitted with a Vectis Plus multi-point lock from leading hardware manufacturer ERA. This new revolutionary locking system combines traditional five lever mortice lock technology with modern cylinder free multi-point locking.
For extra security, tested and certificated Secured by Design (a Police preferred specification) doorsets are also available on request.
To help prevent a break-in, all our composite doors are fitted with an anti-bump cylinder to stop burglars attacking the lock.
Why choose a composite door?
Composite exterior doors are a great choice for many reasons:
A composite door is up to six times more energy efficient than a standard door, making it an essential part in keeping your home warm.
We’re all becoming more environmentally conscious and it often plays a part in helping us choose which products to buy. You can rest assured when buying our composite doors as they are all injected with a polyurethane core which is 100% CFC-free, enhancing sound and heat insulation.
Strong and Weather Resistant
With a strong and sturdy core, the door won’t expand and contract with changing temperatures meaning it won’t significantly blow or warp. It has a high resistance to weathering and again because of its insulated core it has an excellent thermal resistance too.
Appearance and Finish
The composite door looks like a wooden door but because of the materials used, it won’t fade, discolour or will need any maintenance beyond cleaning with a damp cloth.
JELD-WEN offers a range of FD30 30-minute fire resistant composite doorsets in our most popular door sizes and styles. From the outside the composite fire doorsets are indistinguishable from our standard composite doorsets, but they are supplied with additional hardware necessary to resist fire for up to 30 minutes.
