JELD-WEN Windows and Doors Enhance Sustainable Development

Lagan Homes has specified windows and doorsets from JELD-WEN, one of the UK's leading manufacturers of timber windows and doors for Upton Square, a development of energy efficient homes in Northampton.

JELD-WEN's fully reversible (Hi Profile Combi) timber windows, DreamVu™ patio doors and Swedoor front entrance doors were specified to enable the development of one to four bedroom homes and apartments to meet the planning requirements of this sustainable development.

Properties on the development have been built to level four of the Code for Sustainable Homes and were highly insulated, with the doors and windows required to achieve a U value of 1.4 W/m²K.

JELD-WEN has supplied windows and doors to 63 properties on the first phase and is also supplying to subsequent phases, with over 140 properties in total being built on the site.

The properties have a brick and render exterior and the windows and patio doors were supplied with JELD-WEN's performance enhancing Hi-Build factory finish in Dusky Grey to further enhance their aesthetics and prolong their lifespan. All ground floor windows were supplied to meet Secured by Design standards, which means they meet the enhanced security specification against intruder attack approved by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

Craig Hutchison, Site Manager at Lagan Homes said: "It was really important that the windows and doors on this development complemented and enhanced the local area. Timber windows were a planning requirement and we worked closely with JELD-WEN to ensure they met the very strict U values required on this development. Residents of Upton Square will benefit from homes that not only look good but also minimise their energy bills." Steve Renshaw, Sales Specialist at JELD-WEN, said: "Our windows and doorsets have been specified for a number of developments where very low U values are required. On this development reducing the carbon footprint and retaining the aesthetics was all important and our team created a bespoke solution that met with the developer's requirements perfectly."

JELD-WEN's fully reversible windows used throughout the development provide total flexibility in design and configuration, with the option of top or side hung. These windows are popular for their aesthetics and the fact that cleaning can be carried out inside the building. It is little wonder that Lagan Homes specified JELD-WEN's DreamVu™ patio doorsets, which are renowned for enabling developers to maximise light in the home, without compromising on thermal performance. These doorsets offer U values down to 1.0 W/m²K, as part of helping this development to meet its required thermal performance levels.

JELD-WEN's attractive DreamVu™ doorsets were supplied to in timber, but are also offered in aluminium clad timber. The Swedoor entrance doors by JELD-WEN were also supplied in fully finished timber in Dusky Grey to meet the required 1.4 W/m2K U value. Steve Renshaw adds: "Our timber windows are being widely specified for developments where energy efficiency and sustainability is essential. We work with a number of developers to meet their bespoke requirements for windows and doorsets, as part of meeting the increasingly stringent thermal performance of new builds."

Lagan Homes is building this development of affordable homes on behalf of Metropolitan Home Ownership. The homes are designed for first time buyers, couples and growing families and are located on the edge of Northampton. All JELD-WEN windows benefit from full Chain of Custody certification, which means they originate from well managed forests with strict reforestation programmes and therefore further enhances the sustainability of the properties.
