Swedoor, part of the global JELD-WEN group, successfully supplied 109 bespoke interior doorsets to Odeon Oslo within a tight 14-month construction timeline, showcasing its ability to meet the complex requirements of a modern entertainment venue.
Odeon Oslo, Norway’s largest cinema centre, opened in March 2018. The 6,000 sq m facility features 14 state-of-the-art screens with 4K capability, 3D sound, laser projection, and IMAX technology, delivering the ultimate cinematic experience. This project formed part of a larger development that included a new hotel and two apartment blocks.
Chosen by Norway’s largest construction and civil engineering company, Veidekke Entreprenør, Swedoor delivered a comprehensive doorset solution with features including:
Superior sound insulation
The project faced significant acoustic challenges, particularly in auditoriums with direct entrance from common areas, and the absence of traditional sound-reducing airlocks. Swedoor's custom 47 decibel (dB) reduction doors significantly increased the sound insulation, compared to the standard of 30dB offered by headphones.
Bespoke sizing
For the cinema's technical rooms, located beneath the seating areas with a ceiling height of just 170cm, Swedoor provided specially sized doorsets measuring 160cm in height and 80cm in width. This bespoke sizing ensured proper fit and functionality for the unique spaces, and contained noise transmission from the loud ventilation system.
Aesthetic integration
Each of the doorsets were specified in a matte black finish to eliminate glare and maintain focus on the screens. The durability of laminate surfacing also made the doors easy to clean and resistant to wear and tear from the crowds of people passing through the cinema halls, ensuring a high quality and lasting finish.
Enhanced safety
A mix of Ei30 and Ei60 fire-rated doors were installed to meet Norway’s fire resistance requirements and rigorous safety regulations. Many doors were also equipped with automation features, enabling control from the projection rooms and integration with the building’s fire alarm system.
Now available to the UK commercial market, the Swedoor interior doorset range is ideally suited to a variety of sectors including education, leisure, and healthcare. It offers highly customised solutions for large-scale projects with complex acoustic, aesthetic, functional, and logistical demands.
Backed by JELD-WEN’s global reputation, the ability to meet stringent deadlines, and an expert service offering, Swedoor is the ideal choice for customers across various sectors in the UK.
