As a trusted supplier to the healthcare sector, Swedoor recently completed a major contract to supply 2,300 high specification doorsets at the newly opened Lighthouse Hospital in Finland.
Taking up eight-floors, The Lighthouse Hospital – which opened to the public in 2022 – houses departments for adolescent medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as an ear, nose and throat diseases outpatient clinic. Every year, it also manages around 4,000 births.
Paying homage to Finland’s rich and diverse nature, the building’s iconic design looks to create a healing and inspiring environment for patients. From fish and swans to otters, each unit is themed around a dedicated animal, while each floor has its own nautical colour scheme.
When specifying internal doorsets for the development, it was important that these themes were visually represented. It was also critical that the normal standards set for hospital doors, such as hygiene, durability, fire safety and sound insulation, were taken into account.
As part of the global JELD-WEN group, Swedoor won the contract based on its success in previous work on other high-profile hospital projects across Europe.
Swedoor’s expert team was able to deliver a complete solution, which maintained every aspect of the hospital’s specification and achieved an optimum patient experience.
In total, 2,300 Swedoor laminate doorsets were delivered and installed from September 2019 to January 2022. Designed to the highest level of craftmanship, the range provides a hygienic, durable and easy-to-maintain surfacing solution for the most demanding of environments.
Leveraging Swedoor’s vast colour capabilities, a birch-patterned and white colourway was purposefully chosen for most standard doors, enabling coordination with the wider naturalistic hospital surroundings, to create a relaxing ambience. Adding further visual appeal for visitors, many doors were also completed with a laminated animal print, each aligned to relevant unit themes, using hygienic DEKO coating.
Further solutions included multi-part folding doors and sliding doors, providing a simple space-saving solution for busy corridors and entrances, with the integration of an automated opening to improve accessibility and reduce risk of contact contamination.
Where specified, Swedoor’s advanced third-party certified fire doorsets ensured full fire safety compliance, while enhanced acoustic performance meant quieter spaces could be created without compromising the aesthetic or functionality.
Given the vast scope of the project, the Swedoor team also devised a robust delivery programme with the supply provided in batches, in alignment with the wider construction framework. This was supported by a dedicated project manager providing a single point of contact and ensuring confirmation of all orders to exacting requirements.
The Swedoor interior doorset range is now available in the UK and is ideally suited to a range of commercial applications, including education, leisure and healthcare projects, with an array of customisation options available.
