Stylish Fire Doors – Do They Exist?

Long gone are the days of fire doors only looking one way, dull. Now fire doors can look great as well as providing an invaluable benefit of protecting your home and those who live in it. Here at JELD-WEN, stylish fire doors are not a specialist subject, we intend for every fire door we produce to look great, so you can be proud to have it in your home.

Our range of fire doors is unrivalled, with almost 40 different styles across 12 ranges, with varying finishes and fire ratings available. Although they all look different, they all have a few things in common. They look great and they are made to the highest specification and quality.

As with all JELD-WEN doors, our FD30 and FD60 doors are no exception when it comes to the options for finish. You’ll be able to choose between doors that are unfinished, primed or fully finish and ready to hang.

All our fire doors are accredited by the BWF Fire Door Alliance .

Can fire doors have glass in them?

Absolutely they can. We have a wide range of glazed fire doors available, in a number of styles and finishes, including real wood veneer.  JELD-WEN fire doors come in either FD30 or FD60, even with glazed sections, meaning that having added style, doesn’t have to come at a compromise on safety.

It is important to ensure the glazed door you purchase is a fire door, The most reliable way to identify a fire door is to look for its certification label. All JELD-WEN fire doors will have a certification label on the top edge of the door leaf. For other ways to identify a fire door click here.

What’s the difference between FD30 and FD60?

Quite simply, FD30 doors have been manufactured to withstand fire for 30 minutes without being compromised, whereas FD60 fire doors can withstand fire for 60 minutes. The numerical value next to the FD (short for Fire Door) simply explains the amount of minutes the door will last before the fire is able to enter the next room.

Both FD30 and FD60 fire doors provided valuable time for your family to safely escape in case of emergencies and slows the spread of smoke and fire to protect your property until the emergency services can arrive.

Can I buy new fire doors to match my existing interior doors?

You may not be looking to replace or add fire doors to every single frame in your home. For example, you may wish to keep non fire rated doors in frames that do not lead onto a safe corridor such as an en-suite. If this is the case you will likely want both sets of doors to look similar.

The good news is JELD-WEN fire doors are available in the same designs as many of our most popular non fire rated designs. So you may already have a Bostonian 6 Panel, Newark Cottage or Oregon Cottage Horizontal in your home and you can simply select a fire rated version in order to match, keeping a consistent aesthetic and reducing the need to replace all doors in your home, lowering costs.
