JELD-WEN Seeks To Recruit New Apprentices

This week sees the launch of a new partnership in Melton Mowbray which will see young people given the opportunity to become an apprentice.

JELD WEN - Windows and Stairs have joined forces with Brooksby Melton College to offer 12 lucky young people the opportunity to be a bench joinery apprentice with the company. The apprenticeship will cover a wide range of joinery skills and will enable students to learn setting out, marking out and production of items including: windows, doors, patio door frames and staircases.

General Managers at JELD WEN (Melton), Phil Chimento and Phil Duggan told us, "We are totally committed to training and developing our workforce and apprenticeship recruitment plays a major part in making this achievable.  JELD WEN will continue this commitment in the future, ensuring we create a multi-flexible working environment in readiness for the recovery within the housing market.

We believe that we have the perfect platform to nurture young people into this industry and provide apprentices with the skills, security, and confidence essential in this challenging climate.  It also gives them the opportunity to gain real work experience and on-the-job training. From a business perspective it allows us to develop individuals to meet our specific requirements and fill future skills gaps. Skills shortages remain an important issue within the UK and in this industry which we need to address quickly."

Debra Smart, Head of Skills & Business at BMC told us, "We are delighted to be working with JELD WEN on these apprenticeships. The opportunity for young people to train on the job is one that is in demand. For both BMC & JELD WEN it is important to invest in young people to help businesses move forward. We are working with many different companies to promote apprenticeships and are really looking forward to seeing this relationship grow with hopefully more apprentices in the years to come."

Students can apply for the apprenticeships through the National Apprenticeship Service website on Closing date for applications is Friday 13th April 2012.
