When homeowner Richard Green decided to take on a complete renovation and extension project, JELD-WEN was chosen to supply the interior doors and patio doorsets for the property.
In 2013 Mr Green purchased a previously repossessed Victorian property in Dore, Sheffield which required substantial renovation. Work began to completely strip back the house from the roof down including all the electrics and plumbing.
A partition wall and chimney breast was also removed to create an open plan kitchen-diner.
For the homeowner, retaining the original character of the property was an important factor, whilst having the ability to add a modern twist with the décor and fittings. For the interior doors JELD-WEN’s Oregon White Oak range was selected, with glazed Cottage Horizontal doors for the downstairs and the panelled style for the bedrooms and bathrooms. For the master bedroom en-suite and dressing room, the moulded Linea panel and Linea obscure glazed designs were chosen.
“The patios doorsets offered an affordable option to open up the back of the house and replace an old French doorset with sidelights, which has created the perfect entertaining space.”
Mr Green commented, “We selected all of our doors from JELD-WEN for their attractive, contemporary designs, and high quality finish which look great. The oak doors are really solid, which gives the added value of reducing sound transmission throughout the house. Taking on such a large scale renovation project was daunting for us and we learnt lots from it.
In particular we think investing in interior doors is really important as they can make such a big difference to the inside look of the house, whilst also adding value. Everyone who visits, comments on how good they look.”
When it came to the patio doors for the kitchen and gym extension, JELD-WEN’s softwood Wellington Folding Sliding doorsets were chosen. These concertina doorsets are supplied fully finished in white, and offer excellent thermal performance with U values down to 1.8W/m2k.
Mr Green said “The patios doorsets offered an affordable option to open up the back of the house and replace an old French doorset with sidelights, which has created the perfect entertaining space.”
When asked about any final tips when renovating a property Mr Green added “Getting good trades is obviously important. Finding a good builder who is not only technically excellent, but also cares about the outcome you are trying to achieve makes a big difference. We had to redesign and modernise the house without losing its character and our builder brought us ideas which we wouldn’t have thought of which has all added to the final fantastic result.”
