JELD-WEN, one of the UK's leading timber door manufacturers, has donated 14 internal doors to the BBC's DIY:SOS The Big Build show, for a home which is set to be the highlight of the new series.
The popular DIY:SOS team has extended the Huntingdon home of super-mum Julie Jones, who was short of space after adopting her best friend's five orphaned children. Single mum Julie took in the children after the death of both of their parents within a few months in 2010. They have joined Julie's own three sons in her four-bedroom house, leading to an urgent need for extra space.
JELD-WEN was asked to help out by supplying four-panel doors from its popular Shaker range to replace all of the existing internal doors, plus doors for the three new rooms in the extension. The doors were supplied in pre-finished white primer, ready for a final coat of paint.
"We were delighted to supply internal doors to help improve the home for this very special family," said Chris Miller, Product Manager at JELD-WEN. "By using the same doors throughout the property, the designers have been able to create a really stylish look which links together the new and existing rooms. Our Shaker range is a popular choice because its simple styling suits both contemporary and more traditional homes."
In addition to the four-panel design chosen for Julie's home, single panel and glazed options are available within the Shaker range with the same popular clean, minimalist look.
The DIY:SOS team offered to extend the house, after receiving nominations from hundreds of viewers who had heard about the family's plight after Julie was chosen as Tesco's 'Compassionate Mum of the Year'.
DIY:SOS The Big Build is the BBC's flagship home renovating show, with each episode attracting around 6m viewers. The Huntingdon episode was filmed during April and is due to be broadcast later this year.
